This is the official app for the special exhibition "Christoph Brech - SURVIVE, installations in dialogue with the Middle Ages"
in the Bavarian National Museum Munich from 12 May 2016 to 4 September 2016.
The app contains the audio guide with 30 audio contributions to the special exhibition "Survival - Christoph Brech" as well as information about the exhibition and the Bavarian National Museum.
The photo and video artist Christoph Brech presents a selection of his works in the collection of medieval works of the Bavarian National Museum. In 19 rooms, 21 video, sound and spatial installations can be seen, with which Brech picks up on iconographic themes, transforms or reinterprets them. The title SURVIVAL is intentionally meant to be ambiguous, not least with regard to the medieval works of art, which have survived centuries in the care of the museum.
With his installations, the artist creates manifold references that sometimes only become apparent at second glance. Thus, two character heads from the 16th century are confronted with the video portrait of the singer Wolfgang Koch (created in 2013 on behalf of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich), whose artistic versatility is subtly documented in the blend of seven different masks.
